Where Fun Meets Style: North Wales Basement

The best way to keep your teenagers happy to hang out at home? Transform the basement into an irresistibly fun spot where they can’t wait to bring their friends.

These previous clients were thrilled with their other remodeled rooms, so they called on Custom Craft once again. This time, they wanted to transform their basement into a livable, inviting space where they could watch a football game, hang out with friends, and exercise — possibly all at the same time! While they already had a semi-finished basement, it was dated and incomplete. Instead, they wished for a more polished and professional space, personalized to their aesthetics and functional needs.

The biggest challenge to accomplishing their goals was their current basement layout. All their mechanicals — the HVAC system, water heater, chimney, and more — were in a room located in the center of the basement, making it difficult to plan a central space big enough to entertain. Thankfully, the Custom Craft team was able to work around several issues and build them the space they were hoping for.

DESIGN Process

By relocating and replacing the HVAC system with a smaller unit, we condensed the mechanical room, leaving space for a home gym, two living rooms, and a powder room.

With two different living room areas available, each with their own TVs, both kids can have friends over without disturbing each other or fighting over who gets to play video games. In the larger living room, support posts were wrapped in paneling that matches the doors, creating a cohesive, clean look. A quartz countertop was placed between two support posts, creating an ideal spot to sit and enjoy a snack while watching a game. The same quartz was installed beneath the TV and on the convenient snack station to provide additional surface space. A game table, beverage fridge, and lots of built-in storage make this a perfect spot to host parties.

The home gym has everything needed for a full workout without leaving the house. Rubber flooring keeps everyone safe and comfortable, and a large mirror helps them keep an eye on their form while lifting weights. Nearby, a cozy and elegant powder room with a custom-painted vanity provides a convenient space to use the facilities without going upstairs.
