Project Overview

This 1916 Bryn Mawr home was ready for an update that would honor its historic charm while creating more functional spaces for modern living.

The homeowners, avid entertainers, found their existing layout challenging — a cramped kitchen with an awkward support column, closed-off rooms, and an open home office that lacked privacy. They envisioned more open kitchen and living area, a dedicated home office, and improved storage throughout to better suit their lifestyle and hosting needs.

DESIGN Process

The Custom Craft team reimagined the lower level while respecting the home’s character. We flipped the kitchen and dining room locations, creating an open, functional layout. The new kitchen features a spacious walnut island with a built-in sink, custom inset cabinetry, marble countertops, and a sleek, paneled refrigerator. Now guests can sit and chat around the island in comfort and style!

We transformed the former kitchen into a formal dining room and carved out a private home office with a custom jib door that ensures homeowners can easily close off the area when needed. This stunning butler’s pantry expands the kitchen’s functionality with practical and stylish storage solutions. A custom walnut and glass pocket door echoes the kitchen island, while convenient shelving provides the perfect spot for organizing everything from dry goods to small appliances. Generous counter space keeps essentials close while allowing the main kitchen to remain clear and uncluttered

Throughout the project, we preserved historic elements like an existing stone wall and added complementary features like the new door that allows them to access the outdoor area. The result is a beautiful blend of old and new, perfect for both everyday living and entertaining.
