Modern & Convenient Two-Story Wyndmoor Addition

Project Overview

When these Wyndmoor clients purchased their home, they knew they had something truly unique. The original stone structure of the house was once filled with stables that eventually evolved into a small family home. Though they cherished the home’s old-world, preserved charm, living with its idiosyncrasies for fourteen years had become inconvenient — to say the least. One of the main obstacles was the detached laundry room. Doing the laundry is already a time-consuming chore, but walking outside to access the washer and dryer made it even more cumbersome.

Besides an in-house laundry room, they also dreamed of a spacious and modern owner’s suite. After years of raising a family and sharing one bathroom, they longed for a large, luxurious space that was just for them. The Custom Craft team, in partnership with John S. Andrews Architects, stepped in to turn these dreams into reality with a two-story addition that would include an owner’s suite upstairs and a laundry room, sunroom, and updated patio space on the main level.

DESIGN Process

The new owner’s suite is warm and inviting — and only partly so because of the adorable rescue cats that like to curl up on the bed. Generously sized windows flood the space with natural light, enhancing the luxury vinyl flooring. A double vanity with quartz countertops in the bathroom offers ample space for daily rituals. The sleek, modern shower provides the luxurious retreat they were looking for, with a unique doorless entry, heated floor, and a convenient storage niche that blends elegance with functionality.

Downstairs, the new, easily accessible laundry room is packed with storage. Connecting the laundry room to the rest of the house is an elegant sunroom, offering a picturesque setting for leisure and entertainment. The original exterior wall was deliberately left exposed, preserving the room’s vintage aesthetic, while new shiplap walls add additional character.

Just outside the stunning French doors in the sunroom, our team worked with Dear Garden Associates to craft a revitalized patio where our clients can entertain around the outdoor fireplace or simply enjoy a family meal in the fresh air.
