Reimagined & Rebalanced Ambler Kitchen

Project Overview

This Ambler kitchen is a true transformation. While the existing footprint came with some constraints — the island crowding the refrigerator, a narrow sink window limiting natural light, and a patio door needing replacement due to water damage — the space had great potential. The finishes had grown dated, and the hardwood floors showed wear, but the foundation for a welcoming, high-function kitchen was already there.

Without expanding the footprint, the homeowners wanted the kitchen to feel brighter, cleaner, and more comfortable to use.

Design Process

Because the layout was already well-defined, every design decision was made with intention. The island was shifted just enough to restore proper clearance at the refrigerator and ease movement through the room. The undersized window was replaced with a wider triple casement, creating a more balanced focal point and dramatically increasing natural light. The damaged patio door was updated with a new vinyl unit to improve both function and appearance.

Finishes were kept simple and clean to suit the streamlined layout. Renew Grey painted Legacy cabinets pair with quartz countertops featuring light, warm veining. The Siberian Pearl tile backsplash adds a touch of texture without overwhelming the space. The existing hardwood floors were sanded and refinished, giving the kitchen a fresh, cohesive look.

Thoughtful storage upgrades elevate everyday functionality — pull-out trays, a corner Lazy Susan, a tray cabinet beside the dishwasher, silverware organization in the island, and concealed trash all work together to support how the homeowners use their kitchen. They also reused their existing appliances, a practical choice that kept the focus on improving flow and finishes. A tankless reverse osmosis system with a matching dispenser allows instant access to purified water without adding countertop clutter.
