Schwenksville Sunroom Addition Creates Space to Gather

Project Overview
This Schwenksville couple wanted more space to enjoy their home. With adult children, visiting family, guests, and dogs all part of the picture, they envisioned a bright new room where they could relax, entertain, and spend time together.
A sunroom addition offered the opportunity to create that space from scratch—with plenty of natural light, an easy connection to the front yard, and details that would give the room its own character. Its front-yard location also created an opportunity to connect the addition with the existing porch and a new patio.
The broader remodel included updates to the primary bathroom and the creation of a guest ensuite within the existing home, helping accommodate overnight visitors. Here, we’re taking a closer look at the sunroom and the outdoor spaces that surround it.

Design Process
Custom Craft extended the front porch to meet the new sunroom addition, tying the spaces together. Inside, an existing window was converted into a doorway, so the new room opens directly off the original house.
A picture window and a row of double-hung windows fill the room with daylight and offer views of the front yard. An 18-foot Andersen gliding door opens onto a new patio, giving the homeowners an easy connection between indoor gathering space and outdoor seating.
Decorative beams overhead incorporate color-changing LED lighting, with the same effect continuing along the steps into the room. A stacked quartzite fireplace and a pair of black chandeliers make the space inviting after dark. The dogs have their own entrance, too, with an exterior flap and a lockable interior door.
The finished addition gives the homeowners a welcoming place to gather, unwind, and enjoy their surroundings. Connected to both the front porch and the new patio, it creates more ways to spend time together, indoors and out.
Sunroom Addition FAQs
With expansive windows, a gliding door to a new patio, and a connection to the existing front porch, this Schwenksville sunroom offers a fresh way to enjoy the front yard. These FAQs explore the design details that make the space welcoming for family, friends, and dogs alike.
Can a sunroom addition connect to the front yard instead of the backyard?
Yes. In this Schwenksville project, Custom Craft designed the sunroom addition to connect to the front yard, with an 18-foot Andersen gliding door opening onto a new patio. Extending the existing front porch to meet the addition ties the outdoor spaces together and gives the homeowners a new place to relax and entertain.
How do you connect a new sunroom to an existing house?
For this project, Custom Craft converted an existing window into a doorway, creating direct access from the original house to the sunroom. The team also extended the front porch to meet the addition, connecting the new space to the home’s exterior.
What lighting features make a sunroom inviting after sunset?
In this sunroom, color-changing LED lighting integrated into decorative ceiling beams and along the entry steps adds atmosphere after dark. A pair of black chandeliers provides another layer of lighting, while a stacked quartzite fireplace creates a focal point for the room.
How can a sunroom addition accommodate dogs?
Pet access can be incorporated into the design of an addition. In this Schwenksville sunroom, Custom Craft included a dedicated dog entrance with an exterior flap and a lockable interior door, giving the homeowners control over their dogs’ access to the yard.
