Solving Storage and Flow in a Blue Bell Kitchen

Project Overview
These Blue Bell empty nesters were ready for a kitchen that felt easier to use and better suited to everyday life. The existing layout had started to feel dated, with an oddly shaped island that didn’t offer much seating or usable workspace. Storage was also an issue, especially without a pantry to keep everyday items out of sight.
Beyond the kitchen, the first floor felt disjointed. The sunroom — often used to contain their two dogs — felt completely cut off from the kitchen, making the flow between spaces awkward and disconnected. They wanted a more functional layout and a way to keep the home feeling open while still being able to close off the sunroom when needed.

Design Process
The redesign started with the kitchen layout. By relocating the refrigerator, the team opened up more counter space in the main work area and made the island more comfortable for seating and daily use. Taller wall cabinets added much-needed storage, and a new pantry was tucked behind the kitchen to help keep clutter under control.
The transition between the kitchen and sunroom also needed attention. Partial walls with a custom door create a clear boundary when the dogs need to stay in the sunroom, without making the kitchen feel closed off from the rest of the space.
To keep everything cohesive, existing cabinetry in areas behind the kitchen was painted to match the new finishes. Hardwood floors were refinished throughout the first and upper levels, with new tile installed in the sunroom, mudroom, pantry, laundry, and powder room. The staircase was refinished to match the updated hardwoods, giving the entire first floor a more consistent, pulled-together feel.

"Every person working on the project was personable and professional. They all went above and beyond my expectations."
